Meteor Shower

I was reminded rather last minute of tonight’s meteor shower, but I managed to catch a few flying through the skies above the east of england nonetheless. I stood in the garden, hand blocking out a nearby street lamp (not so lucky as to live in the countryside, me), and there: a tiny streak of light, lasting perhaps half a second. And again, a few minutes later. Unfortunately, cloud has started moving over, so I am unlikely to see many more for now. But, I will have another look soon. Apparently it will peak just before sunrise. Only a couple of hours to go…

The End of Mr. Y

Well, I just finished reading The End of Mr. Y by Scarlett Thomas, and quite enjoyed it. It’s not the best-written book I’ve ever read, but it has a good story and some strong intellectual content. Read the rest of this entry »

What is up with facebook?

Er, I’ve been having some problems with some people’s profiles recently – disappearing and then a few minutes later suddenly coming back as normal. Is this just regular maintainence?

Ubuntu: perfect for life

I’m using Ubuntu for nearly everything I do, and I think it is the perfect desktop for most computer users. Why? It does everything you need from a home PC, and an office one as well. Read the rest of this entry »
