The spirit of co-operation
Just found a (very long) essay titled “The Lost Art of Cooperation“, and although I haven’t read it all (as I said, it’s very long to read on a computer), the general sense is this: that competition (in the sense of trying to beat everyone else) is damaging to freedom, and that “[t]o live and to flourish, it is the lost art of cooperation that we need to cultivate”.
All of which flowed from this simple quotation:
Government and co-operation are in all things the laws of life; anarchy and competition the laws of death.
–John Ruskin, Unto This Last (1862)
I’m sure you know why I filed this under ‘Ubuntu’.
