Fitting the battle of life

The daily grind from my angle.

I met a guy in a pub.

He was a Windows sysadmin type thing (I was a little inebriated and it was noisy). I mentioned the L-word. He said he ‘didn’t get it’.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

He knew of Linux and didn’t understand the point. He had no philosophical bone in his body. He had no moral bone in his body.

I was too drunk to argue, unfortunately, but what if this happens again? My world will collapse.

  1. That’s it….I’m declaring war!!!

WTF do you mean by a fucking moral backbone! Admittedly, being a Windows sysadmin means he doesn’t have much going for him, but *far* more annoying is the bloke who pretends to think that Linux will cure everything from poverty to cancer.

Showing appreciation for an OS by wearing the t-shirt or introducing it to friends/family is generally acceptable…but fawning over it as though nothing else in the world is remotely acceptable is fucking annoying. So you’re a Linux fanboy…GET OVER IT!!! Using Ubuntu doesn’t make you a better person, just as wearing a brown trendy shirt as opposed to a black one with a penguin on it doesn’t make you a better person (though the brown shirt makes you more acceptable in society).

Computers are the means to an end; and operating systems are designed accordingly so as to take as little of your time as possible….I don’t want to wait for hours for some random person (might I add again, without a life) to get back to me about a driver incompatibility problem (because lets face it, most things don’t work with Linux, at least not until the fifth attempt at fixing it)…

Linux suits you because you have plenty of spare time on your hands (and maybe subconsciously makes you feel better because of the “community” malarkey they have going…almost like Scientology). But quiet frankly, most people have jobs/degrees to worry about instead of faffing about on chatrooms/using command line for what can very easily be done with a GUI.

You want to develop a moral bone? (I’m laughing very loudly at this point)
Then go volunteer for something, dedicate time to people *really* in need, instead of pretending that solving some random Ubuntu user’s problem with a bit of code accounts for 10 portions on your 5-a-day-good-deed plan…

PLEASE come up with something better than Windows user/supporter = evil person
because this whole senseless-Linux-fanboy thing is rapidly depleting any shred of respect I had for you…

  2. You have an idea of Linux that’s slightly outdated. Even Vista has had massive driver problems – it’s the hardware manufacturers’ faults, not the Linux community’s. Get Ubuntu on your spare HDD and play around, then come back and take back what you’ve said here today.

  3. a) It’s not outdated at all…since that’s what you seem to imply every time you get into one of your “Linux will save the world” fits
    b) That’s why I don’t use Vista…
    c) I don’t care who’s fault it is…I just want to be able to use it without any problems
    d) I don’t have the time to play around with Ununtu since I have a Radeon Xsomething series graphics card which doesn’t even let me run Ubuntu off the live cd on “Graphics Safe Mode”
    e) I still don’t see how picking one OS over another would make me a better person

Conclusion: Doesn’t make you a better person either so do try to calm your “Linux FTW” moments…fanboydom gets old very quickly for those around you and makes you less bearable than you already were…
You may love Ubuntu, but no one really cares – so drop it!!!
