The daily grind from my angle.

Forward looking

without comments

It’s been a while since I’ve had any time to spend writing posts (or, indeed, much leisure time at all sat down at the computer), as I’ve been extraodinarily busy both celebrating the end of term and start of summer, and getting all those bits done I needed to ready for next year.

I’ve had my first major experience of Union bureaucracy as the incoming President of the Debating Society. Risk assessments, annual registration packs, room booking requests (so many that it’s unbelievable), and event budgets. It’s not all bad though – have had some very productive meetings with various staff, officers and other societies regarding cooperation and joint events. More details when these are confirmed!

It should be a very good year. We’re looking to expand membership further, even though we’re already one of the largest. We want to become less intimidating and more accessible. We even have a very special Christmas event in the pipeline – and all of that is just on the public side. When it comes to workshops and competitions, again we want to develop existing talent and stop the trend whereby people come for one or two workshops, find it cliquey and intimidating, and become more friendly. It is also an express aim of mine to send teams to the World Championships for the first time as representatives of our society.

It should be a good year – in a way, it’s a shame there’s still Summer in the way…
